Tidbits September 1, 2009
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st, 2009 - so, where did summer go? WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd, 2009 - Worship with us at 7:00 - Rev. Matt McKay leading. This will be our last Sunday on Wednesday service. We will return to Sunday worship on September 13th, 2009. It should be noted that during the summer months when we have had Sunday worship, our average attendance has been between 10 and 18 people. This summer we have averaged 30 - 32 people. Isn't that interesting. I personally would not have guessed. MISSION CAPSULES: Our gifts to Presbyterians Sharing ... support the Rev. Edward Hoekstra as he works with the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian as Associate Minister of St. Columba Church in Blantyre, Malawi. Ed is involved in all areas of pastoral ministry at the church, but has special responsibility for the English language service. Ed is accompanied by his wife Jackie and two of their five children, Jacob and Nico. Jackie writes, " we represent so much more than Ed and Jackie and the kids. We represent the Presbyterian Church, the Body of Christ, the hands and feet of Christ, the desire for justice, companionship is suffering, possibilities of something new. We feel honoured to be among our brothers and sisters here, nurturing and encouraging them in their faith and having our faith strengthened by them." Let us pray for the Hoekstra family as they are witnesses to God's love in Malawi. NOTE: Presbyterian Music Camp for 2009 was a great success and was enjoyed by all who attended. The weather was typical, we had sun, and we had rain, but it did not dampen our collective spirit. BEACHES WOMEN'S RETREAT: OCTOBER 2nd and 3rd. It will be at Ganaraska Woods again, and will again be 24 hours. Friday 7:00 - Saturday at 7:00. So far we do not have a confirmed speaker or a confirmed price. However, please mark it on your calendars and look for more information soon. This is an event not to be missed. Speak to Mary Rae Shantz. MORE NONSENSE: The man who survived mustard gas and pepper spray is now a seasoned veteran! A backward poet writes inverse. When cannibals ate a missionary, they got a taste of religion. Don't join dangerous cults: Practice safe sects! Have a good week - Marlene Barnett
