Tidbits August 3, 2009
MONDAY, AUGUST 3rd, 2009 - "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has!" Margaret Mead WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5th, 2009 - "Sundays on Wednesdays" continues through August. Rev. Matt McKay leading worship. 7:00 pm MISSION CAPSULE: Jesus challenges us to love our neighbours as ourselves. Through Presbyterians Sharing ... we support Justice Ministries and advocate for the protection of vulnerable people. 760,000 Canadian children live in poverty, and an increasing number of Canadians are adversely affected by the economic downturn. Povery can be reduced. In March, during a series of pre-budget vigils, Ontario's faith communities, including a number of Presbyterians, prayed at Queen's Park, for the poor. Let us pray for those who are working towards a day when God's abundance will be shared equally by all members of society. SATURDAY, AUGUST 15th, 2009 - St. Aidan's Church - Queen East and Silverbirch - invite you for a fire-pit sing along on the church lawn. 7:00 pm - info - 416-691-2222 FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th, 2009 - Commemorative Peace Vigil at the Community Centre 55 Millennium Peace Garden, at the south east corner of Coxwell & Eastern. 11:00 am - all are welcome to attend and participate, remembering the events at the Twin Towers in New York City, September 11th, 2001. For information and to confirm attendance: Gene Domagala 416-691-5229 - INTERESTING! The Liquor Control Board of Ontario reports that during the past year and in the current economic climate they have lost close to $6.5 million in thefts from their stores! NOTE: It is interesting to know that Buzz Aldrin took communion, administered by a Presbyterian Minister, shortly after Apollo II landed on the moon. MORE NONSENSE: A small boy swallowed some coins and was taken to a hospital. When his grandmother telephoned to ask how he was, a nurse said "No change yet". A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion. A short fortune-teller who escaped from prison was a small medium at large! Have a good week - Marlene Barnett
